This condition can lead to liver inflammation (steatohepatitis), scarring (fibrosis), and in severe cases, cirrhosis or liver failure. Fatty liver disease is broadly divided into two types: alcoholic fatty liver disease, caused by excessive alcohol intake, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), which is more common and not related to alcohol.

  • Structured programs involving behavioral therapy
  • Medications for weight or diabetes control, if appropriate
